The bolt and cylinder here are brass rather than plated steel. Brass does not rust, which matters because a mortise pocket is a closed, unventilated cavity inside a wooden door — exactly the environment where humidity collects during a Lahore or Karachi monsoon. A plated steel bolt in that space will eventually corrode where the plating is thinnest, and a corroded bolt starts to bind before it fails. Brass simply does not have that failure mode.
