Several black handles in our range carry a chrome or silver accent, and there is a good reason for that: an accent keeps the lever’s shape readable at a distance. But an accent is also a second element on the door, and in a scheme where black hardware is already used on the hinges, the stoppers and the light switches, adding a chrome line to just the handle makes it the odd one out.

This set has no accent at all. In a fully committed black scheme, that consistency is worth more than the extra definition. If black hardware is the exception rather than the rule in your room, one of our accented sets is the better choice.

Why the Thumb-Turn Sits Flush

Most privacy locks use a knob protruding from the plate — which catches sleeves, gets knocked when furniture moves through the doorway, and collects dust around its base. This design sinks the turn into an oval recess, operated with a fingertip in the hollow. On a handle this minimal, a protruding knob would have been the one thing breaking the line.

Installation

Standard mortise fitting. The body is a compact latch unit rather than a deep deadbolt mortise, so the pocket cut in the door edge is shallow. Decide which side takes the thumb-turn before fitting — it goes on the inside face of the room. Mask around the fixing points while working, since a matte black finish shows tool scuffs far more readily than brushed metal. Clear the thumb-turn recess with a dry cotton bud occasionally.
